The Bone Island Space Finally Has A Second Life

The building at 920 Greensboro Road sat quiet for roughly four years after Bone Island Grillhouse closed. Lake Oconee Bistro owner Gary Sofen bought it and, as he told Business Debut, walking in it looked like it had closed yesterday. That is a rare piece of luck in restaurant real estate, and Sofen used it to open two concepts under one roof in time for Masters Week.

Inside is the Italian Chophouse, an upscale evening of Italian tradition meets modern steakhouse, prime steaks and chops, fresh seafood, and classic Italian dishes paired with an impressive wine list. Harmony Crossing Is Quietly Becoming A Neighborhood

The most interesting thing to track this year is not any single opening. It is the density forming at Harmony Crossing and along the stretch of Hwy 44 that used to feel like a pass-through.

Pho & More, a family-owned Vietnamese restaurant, opened at Harmony Crossing in Eatonton, bringing authentic flavors of Vietnam to Lake Country. Less than four months in, the Lake Oconee News reported that owners Marino and Summer Graf had already built a loyal following, marked by an official ribbon-cutting hosted by the Eatonton-Putnam Chamber of Commerce at 113 Harmony Crossing. A few doors of energy over, The Crunchy Shop had its grand opening on April 18, 2026, a locally owned wellness and lifestyle shop by Claudia Malcolm specializing in herbal remedies, natural goods, and thoughtfully curated essentials. The differentiator is the in-store workshop element: visitors can create their own custom products in-store, including candles, perfumes, and laundry care items, making each visit personal and interactive. Where To Actually Spend A Saturday Between Now And September

• Homegrown Farmers Market, Greensboro. Launched this year by Spencer Sumner, it runs every other Saturday from May 30 through September 26, from 8 a.m. to noon, at 122 E. Broad St., Greensboro, GA 30642. Smaller than the Eatonton market and skewed toward makers.
• Chamber breakfast at The Plaza Arts Center, if you want a taste of how the local business community talks about the lake. The Eatonton-Putnam Chamber has one scheduled for August 20, 2026 at 8:30 a.m. at The Plaza Arts Center, 305 N. Madison Ave.

For a weekend that combines all of it, pair the Friday Eatonton farmer's market with dinner at the Italian Chop House, and use Saturday morning for the Greensboro Homegrown market before the concert series that evening. That itinerary did not exist last summer.

The single most consequential development for the corridor is not open yet. In late June, Lake Oconee News reported that Shaifer Partners hosted a groundbreaking at Lake Country Village, the mixed-use development it is building across Hwy 44 from Harmony Crossing, a family-owned business that officially began construction this spring on a development stretching across nearly 140 acres in eastern Putnam County.

One-hundred-forty acres of mixed use directly across from an already-active retail node is the kind of project that changes traffic patterns, sightlines, and the everyday shape of errands. It also tells you where the professional-services build-out is heading. Earlier in 2025 the Greene County Board of Commissioners approved a rezoning on Lake Oconee Parkway for a professional/business complex of nine buildings ranging from 8,000 to 30,000 square feet. Between those two projects and the smaller openings above, the message is consistent. The lake keeps the lifestyle. The corridor is where the daily infrastructure of that lifestyle is being built.

For homeowners, that has practical consequences that are worth thinking about now rather than later. Coffee, groceries, physical therapy, dinner, and a Saturday market are all becoming a short drive from most of the recognized communities around the lake, in a way they were not five years ago.
